The unfortunate demise of the Member of Parliament for Kumawu, Philip Basoah, in the early hours of Tuesday, March 28, 2023, has thrown his constituency into a state of mourning.
As the tears flow freely, so is the exact cause of his death coming to light.
The MP, who 24 hours earlier on Thursday, March 23, 2023, looked hale and hearty and even participated in the day’s parliamentary proceedings, suddenly took ill on Friday.
As the House debated and readied itself to take a secret ballot to determine the fate of the new Ministerial nominees, word began circulating that the deceased MP had been rushed to the hospital after he fell unconscious at home.
The MP’s presence was however needed to complement the numbers of the Majority caucus whose 137+1 MP strength had been reduced by one (1) due to the prolonged absence of Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo.
But as his close relatives made frantic efforts to locate him to exchange the usual morning pleasantries, so was the leadership of the Majority caucus making same efforts to get him to parliament to vote for the new ministers.
His driver, who had reported to his usual duty to pick him up to parliament, was left with no option but to break into the fortified apartment of the MP after several knocks on his door went unanswered. He was however discovered unconscious and rushed to the hospital.
The death of Philip Basoah in office will not be the only his family has had to deal with such an unfortunate incident.
His uncle Reo Addai Basoah also died in office in 2002 while occupying the same seat. Former President Kufuor in eulogizing the late MP then described him as an inspiration to many.
Same can be said about his nephew now the late Philip Basoah
