Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed his solidarity with traders affected by the recent fire at Kantamanto Market, offering his condolences and a donation of GH¢200,000 to aid in their recovery.

During his visit to the market, Dr Bawumia toured the damaged areas, engaging with traders who faced substantial losses in the wake of the devastating fire. The inferno destroyed goods and stalls, leaving many traders struggling to cope with the financial impact.

Addressing the victims, Dr Bawumia conveyed his heartfelt sympathy and reassured them of the government’s commitment to supporting their recovery efforts.

“We will investigate the incident to ascertain the cause of the fire. Coming here, I have seen that work has commenced and I am happy. With the little help we can offer, we will bring that on board to ensure that the market becomes a befitting one. I know you need a lot of items to put up on the market. We will do well to help you with those.

”When we finish the market, there is something I want to propose. We have to ensure that we establish an internal security. Apart from the internal security, I will ensure that we install CCTV cameras around the market. Even though we are getting out of the office, I will personally ensure that the cameras are brought and installed.”

Dr. Bawumia, accompanied by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Titus Glover, leaders of the Kantamanto, expressed heartfelt condolences to the affected traders.
