Kathleen Addy, Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has called on Ya-Na Abukari (II), Overlord of Dagbon Traditional Area to brief him about the activities and programmes of the NCCE.
Ms Addy, speaking during the visit at the Gbewaa Palace at Yendi, emphasised need for peaceful coexistence, especially as the country approached this year’s general election in December.
She expressed the NCCE’s commitment to promoting responsible citizenship, good governance and patriotism for socio-economic development and touched on the critical role of traditional leadership in nation building by praising Ya-Na for his role in ensuring peace and tolerance in the country.
Ya-Na Abukari (II) urged the NCCE to intensify its efforts in promoting peaceful dialogue, tolerance, and issues-based political campaigns.
He called for the establishment of impartial platforms for resolving electoral disputes to calm tensions and promote mutual understanding and urged the NCCE to work with media outlets to encourage balanced reporting, counter hate speech, and ensure responsible journalism.
He commended Ms Addy and her team for their commitment to consolidating the country’s democracy and civic education and wished them a successful tour of Dagbon and the Northern Region.
