President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to transforming Ghana through well-planned infrastructure as he commissioned the Flower Pot Interchange in Accra on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Akufo-Addo described the interchange as a “legacy for the future” and expressed his pride in unveiling what he termed a tangible demonstration of his government’s vision for a modern and inclusive Ghana.

“It is with considerable pride and singular honour that I declare the Flower Pot Interchange duly commissioned. This moment is not merely about the opening of a new piece of infrastructure; it is about unveiling a vision for Ghana’s future, one driven by lasting progress, inclusivity, and national pride,” the President said.

Reflecting on his administration’s journey since taking office in 2017, President Akufo-Addo recalled the solemn pledge he made to transform Ghana’s infrastructure landscape.

He stressed the importance of roads in national development, describing them as more than physical connections but as enablers of opportunity, prosperity, and an improved quality of life.

“When we assumed office in 2017, we knew that true national development rests upon the foundation of well-planned and well-executed infrastructure. Roads are pathways to opportunity, prosperity, and a better quality of life for all.”

The President emphasised that the Flower Pot Interchange is a clear example of his government’s commitment to progress.

“Today, with this interchange, we reaffirm that our commitment to progress is more than rhetoric—it is action built in stone and steel.”

The Flower Pot Interchange, located along the Spintex Road, is a significant addition to Ghana’s transport infrastructure. Featuring a flyover and an underpass, the interchange is designed to improve north-south traffic flow, easing congestion in one of Accra’s busiest areas.

Construction of the interchange began in 2017 and is expected to greatly enhance connectivity between the northern and southern regions of the Accra-Tema Motorway. It will benefit commuters travelling between East Legon, Madina, and other northern areas to destinations such as Teshie, Spintex, La, and 37.

The project is set to improve the daily commute for thousands of Ghanaians while fostering economic growth and urban development.

President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his vision of a Ghana that works for everyone, ensuring that every citizen feels the impact of government initiatives.

“This interchange is not just a piece of infrastructure; it is a testament to our commitment to building a new Ghana, one that works for every citizen. It is a privilege for me and a proud moment for the nation,” he said.
