Transport fares are set to go up 15% if reduction in the fuel prices announced by the government does not bring it below Gh¢8.80 per litre.
Transport Unions have served notice anything above the Gh¢8.80 per litre and transport fares will be increased.
Industrial Relations Officer of the Ghana Private Road Transport Unions (GPRTU), Ibrahim Abass Imoro, speaking to 3FM’s Sunrise ahead of an intended reduction announced by the Finance Minister said the Unions have already made their decision.
Fuel prices are expected to be reduced marginally effective today Friday, April 1, 2022.
However, only 15 pesewas will be scrapped off the price as disclosed by Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta.
Alhaji Imoro said, “We had organized a press conference to announce the fare increments but we heard there was going to be a reduction of fuel prices today so we pleaded with them [members] to postpone the announcement until the reduction of fuel prices today.”
“We have agreed to increase by 15% but if they are able to reduce fuel prices to less than GH¢8.80…we will not increase transport fares but anything less than GH¢8.80, we will definitely come up with new fares,” he added
