The former Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Mark Assibey Yeboah, has emphasized that Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia cannot be blamed for the decision to seek a bailout from the IMF.

In a one-on-one interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Citi TV on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, the former Chairman of the Finance Committee of Parliament stated that while going to the IMF is not a bad idea in itself, Dr. Bawumia cannot also be blamed for the decision.

“Cut Bawumia some slack because he didn’t anticipate the pandemic and the war between Russia and Ukraine” he said this when the host asked him if Dr. Bawumia should be blamed for the Akufo-Addo administration’s u-turn with respect to going to seek a bailout from the IMF.

Dr. Assibey Yeboah also touched on a wide range of topics regarding the economy as the team from the IMF is in town to start interactions with the government’s team.

“The teacher and nursing training allowances should be scrapped” he advised as he believes it has outlived its usefulness.

Assibey Yeboah said that his work in Parliament has come to an end and there is no way he will seek to go back to the House. “I don’t miss Parliament”, he stated.
