Mr Moses Antwi, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party in the Ahafo Region at the weekend presented food items worth thousands of Ghana cedi to the Dantano branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Asunafo South constituency of the region.

They comprised bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, boxes of sardines, quantities of bottled and sachet water, packs of ‘take-way’ bowls and tins of tomato paste, a goat, and non-alcoholic beverages.

The items, according to Mr Antwi, a former Second Vice Chairman of the China branch of the Party was to be used to fete disgruntled members and supporters of the party in the area.

That would strengthen the bond of unity and ignite the spirit and loyalty of the NPP supporters, ahead of the December 7, polls, he told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the side-lines of a short presentation ceremony held at Dantano, near Kukuom, the constituency capital.

“I returned to my hometown, where I regularly engage with people to understand their perspectives ahead of the 2024 elections.

In my conversation with them, I gathered that if the election were held today, both our presidential and parliamentary candidates from the NPP would likely secure a win,” he explained.

However, Mr Antwi noted that “the margin of support might fall short of what some of us hoped for, largely due to certain misunderstandings and grievances within the community. Frankly, the feedback was not as encouraging as expected”.

“To address these concerns, the polling station executives and I brainstormed on ways to bridge these divides, and we came up with a straightforward, yet impactful idea rooted in our cultural values: we need to seek forgiveness and rebuild trust with our people,” Mr Antwi stated.

“Just as we approach our elders to seek forgiveness or blessings in our tradition, we feel it’s essential to humbly ask our community members for their understanding and pardon for any past missteps or misunderstandings”.

Mr Antwi, also a former Ahafo Regional Information Technology Coordinator of the NPP said “our initiative, titled, Gget together to forgive our sins and bring back the Love,” is designed to renew the bonds within our community, showing that we genuinely care and are committed to moving forward together”.

He added that the get-together would reconnect, forgive, and reaffirm “our collective vision for a prosperous future with Alhaji Dr Bawumia and Frank Aduse Poku, our parliamentary candidate as our leaders”.

Mr Desmond Kofi Badu, the Electoral Area Coordinator who received the items thanked the donor for the gesture, and assured the items would be used for the intended purpose and to deepen party unity for an intensified electioneering.
