The Ghana Police Service says adequate security measures have been put in place to provide security for the planned demonstration by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday, 17th September, 2024, in all 16 regional capitals of the country.
“As part of preparations for the demonstration, the Ghana Police Service extensively engaged the leadership of the NDC and the Electoral Commission in all the regions across the country.
“The agreed routes for the demonstration in all 16 regions which have been duly conveyed to the organizers are as indicated in the attached document marked Appendix A”, the police disclosed in a statement.

POLICE STATEMENT ON PLANNED DEMONSTRATION BY THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS
1. The Ghana Police Service has put in place adequate measures to provide security for the planned demonstration by the National Democratic Congress (N.D.C.) tomorrow Tuesday, 17th September, 2024, in all 16 regional capitals of the country.
2. As part of preparations for the demonstration, the Ghana Police Service extensively engaged the leadership of the NDC and the Electoral Commission in all the regions across the country.
3. The agreed routes for the demonstration in all 16 regions which have been duly conveyed to the organizers are as indicated in the attached document marked Appendix A.
4. The Organisers of the demonstration have been duly notified of their responsibilities under Section 3 of the Public Oder Act, 1994 (Act 491) as indicated below:
Section 3—Responsibility of Organisers and Other Persons
(1) Where at any special event any damage is caused to any public property, the organisers, or
any other persons found to have been responsible for the damage caused shall be liable to pay for the cost of the damage.
(2) Any person taking part in a special event shall obey the directions of police officers safeguarding the proper movement of other persons and vehicles and generally maintain order.
(3) Any person taking part in a special event shall conduct himself in such a manner as to avoid causing obstruction of traffic, confusion or disorder.
The organizers have also been informed of their duty to abide by all other laws since they will be held responsible for any breaches.
5. We would like to urge the organizers and all participants in the demonstration to adhere to these arrangements and ensure full compliance of all laws.
6. We would also like to once again assure the public that the Police remain committed to ensuring that security, law and order is maintained throughout the period of the exercise and beyond.
