Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has assured officials of mining giant, AngloGold Ashanti that the government is ready is work with the company as genuine partners to promote mining in Ghana.
Ghana, he said, is positioning itself as the mining hub of Africa and the government is putting in place all the building blocks and frameworks to make the country the number one choice for investors to invest.
Speaking at a meeting with officials of AngloGold Ashanti in Johannesburg on Friday 13th May, 2022, Mr. Abu Jinapor indicated the government is eager to have the mining giant join this vision.
According to him, President Akufo-Addo had been instrumental in getting the company into Ghana and investing so much into the Obuasi mine.
He stated that the history of the efforts the President put in when difficulties with the company’s development agreements came should guide all partners in this new venture.
The Minister expressed satisfaction AngloGold Ashanti has pledged to ramp up investment in Obuasi and Iduapriem and plans to make the company the number one gold producer in Ghana and to make Obuasi its biggest operation and its highest output globally.
He said, “These are very refreshing assurances we’ve received from you and what I can say is that we should continue to work together and continue to partner to achieve the goal and vision of the President.”
“This means Ghanaians and Ghana get the benefit from the natural resources we are blessed with and investors like you also have your investment secured and you get good returns out of your investment.”
The various companies operating in the mining space in Ghana, he said, will attest to the fact that the government is working in a very collaborative manner and opening up to support to resolve issues when they come up.
