Inadequate space in the Ashaiman market due to the rapid spread of wheelbarrows by young adults who have dropped out of schools to earn a living for themselves.

Wheel Barrows in the Ashaiman market are used in conveying goods from one place to another instead of their original use that is carrying mortar for building purposes.

Some buyers and sellers in the market find it more convenient to use wheelbarrows for conveying their goods because they find it safer and less expensive on their side.

In an interview with Stephen Zator, a school dropout he said, “I will choose the wheelbarrow business with my education because I earn not less than One Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢100.00) a day and that is enough to feed myself since my reason for going to school is to become rich I think I should continue with the wheelbarrow business to become rich rather than paying school fees to teachers before becoming rich”.

Others also have their reasons as to why they are into the wheelbarrow business some dropouts said they have no support system from anywhere and that is what they and their families depend on them for survival. In as much as some buyers and sellers in the Ashaiman markets are comfortable with the wheelbarrows conveying their goods others are not.

Some buyers and sellers are always complaining about the negative effects not regarding how safe or cheap it is. Some also laments about the bad states of the wheelbarrows that are rusted and if care is not taken could cause harm to them.

It has provided some customers with little space when they come to the market to purchase their goods wheel Barrows will be seen everywhere in the market causing sellers to lose their market since buyers prefer going to nearby markets that have much space to accommodate them.

Taxi drivers and truck pullers are also complaining about wheelbarrow users taking their customers from them.

The Ashaiman market needs support to help curb the situation that is causing more harm than good to the people of Ashaiman especially.
