This forms part of the District Assemblies Common Fund which is in fulfilment of the government’s responsibility to support PWD’s in the country as stipulated by the Constitution.

Honoourable Boye Laryea, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) presenting the items to the beneficiaries said it was part of the Assembly’s support for PWDs in the Municipality.

He said the Assembly was committed to improving on the lives of PWDs in the Municipality hence the donation.

The gesture, the Okaikwei North MCE stated was also to prevent the PWD’s from begging for alms by the roadside and to make them financially and economically independent.

He stated that Christmas was approaching and that it was the right time to disburse the items to them.

Honoourable Laryea encouraged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items stressing that the Assembly would only be able to help more beneficiaries if they utilized what they had received well.

Mr. Joshua Addy, the representative of the National Council of Persons with Disability said the distribution of the item marked another opportunity to transform lives through the Common Fund.

Madama Grace Benson, the Head of the Department for Social Welfare and Community Development urged the beneficiaries to use the items received for the intended purpose.

Some of the beneficiaries thanked the Assembly for the support and promised to make good use of the items.

Present at the ceremony was the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Francis Mensah, the Chairperson of the Social Services Sub- Committee and other staffs of the Assembly.
