A 24-year-old woman who stole a 50-inch TV belonging to a church at the Teshie Military Academy Barracks in the Greater Accra Region has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.
The television valued at GH¢8,900 is said to be the property of the Church of Pentecost, Whistler Barracks Worship Centre.
Mawuena Tamakloe, unemployed, pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and stealing.
The court, after listening to her explanation, entered a plea of not guilty on the charge of causing unlawful damage.
The judge, Mrs Susan Edufful convicted Mawuena on her own plea and deferred her sentence to Thursday, May 22, 2025.
Meanwhile, the court has ordered the Police to conduct a pregnancy test on Mawuena.
Prosecution led by Chief Inspector Clemence Takyi said the complainant Ebenezer Oppong Aboagye was an Elder with the Church of Pentecost, Whistler Barracks Worship Centre located within the Teshie Military Academy while Mawuena was a resident of Tema Community 2.
Chief Inspector Takyi said on May 15, 2025 at about 8:30 am, Mawuena was spotted by some Military officers who were witnesses in the case, carrying a 50-inch Hisense UHD 4k flat screen TV valued at GH¢8,900 out of the Military Academy Barracks, specifically from the Church of Pentecost , Whistler Barrack Worship Centre direction with the Church’s inscription on the TV box.
Prosecution told the court that when the accused was interrogated by the officers, her explanation did not go down well so she was handed over to the Military Police for further questioning.
Chief Inspector Takyi said Mawuena confessed to having stolen the TV from one of the offices within the church auditorium.
The prosecution said the complainant was informed, and the accused person was handed over to the Police together with the TV for action.
The prosecution said Police personnel in the complainant’s company and the accused person visited the church and detected that the inner wooden door to the head pastor’s office had been damaged.
The court heard that the accused person admitted the offences during interrogation in her caution statement.
