The Ministerial nominees of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will be appearing before the Appointments Committee of Parliament tomorrow, Wednesday 10th February 2021 to justify their inclusion in the Executive arm of Government.
The nominees would be grilled at a public hearing to determine whether they are persons of integrity, capable of discharging the duties of Ministers of State as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution.
Article 78 (1) of the Constitution states that “Ministers of State shall be appointed by the President with the prior approval of Parliament from among members of Parliament or persons qualified to be elected as members of Parliament, except that majority of Ministers of State shall be appointed from among Members of Parliament.
As part of the approval process, members of the general public are expected to assist the Appointment or Vetting Committee with information about the President’s nominees to enable Parliament to critically scrutinize whether they are capable and competent representatives of the President at the various ministries.
The first batch of ministerial nominees appearing on Wednesday, February 10th, 2021 includes Hon. Kwaku Agyeman Manu, Minister-Designate for Health Minister, and Mr. Kan Dapaah, Designate for National Security.
Thursday, 11th February. 2021, Hon Dominic Nitiwul, Minister-Designate for Defence will take his turn along with the Minister-Designate for Education, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum Minister.
On Friday 12th February, 2021 three Ministers-Designate and they include Minister-Designate for Parliamentary Affairs, Hon. Osei Kyel Mensah Bonsu; Attorney General and Minister-Designate for Justice, Mr. Godfred Dame and Hon. Ambrose Dery, Minister Designate for Interior.
On Monday, 15th February, 2021, Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minister-Designate for Energy; and Ms. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister-Designate for Foreign Affairs will appear before the Committee.
Tuesday, 16th February, 2021 will be the turn of Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Atta, Minister-Designate for Roads and Highways; Hon Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful Minister-Designate for Communications and Digitisation; and the Finance Minister-Designate, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta Minister.
